MIP Information

Each semester, 15-20 highly qualified undergraduate students and two graduate students are selected to be placed in semester-long internships in Maryland State Government. Undergraduates earn nine credit hours by interning 18-20 hours each week, attending a weekly seminar on campus, and completing various assignments. Additionally, a small stipend is awarded to students to help offset the transportation costs from campus to Annapolis or Baltimore, the site of most MIP internships.

By completing the program, undergraduates will earn three credit hours in Government and Politics and six elective credits. Additionally, MIP alumni will also take with them invaluable experiences, skills, and networking that will help them find, and succeed in, careers in government, politics, or any other field.

Unique to this program is the internship placement process. Once accepted to the program, interns work with MIP staff to find an internship that best suits their needs. MIP has relationships with many offices in State government and acts as a liason between interns and prospective supervisors, helping interns locate an internship that will give them the best experience. Go to "MD Internships" in the menu on the right to learn more about possible internship opportunities.
