October 7, 2010 CAPC Career Seminar September 29, 2010 Fall Career and Internship Fair 2010 - If you want to work in government and politics after graduating, an internship with the Maryland state government is a great way to gain experience, build a professional network, and get your foot in the door. CAPC attended the fair to advertise the new Marylan Internship Program and recruit potential participants for the spring 2010 semester. October 29, 2009 CAPC Career Seminar - Once again CAPC addressed every undergraduates' nightmare: What to do after graduation. Professionals from various government and politics fields who are University of Maryland alumni tackled this question. Notable guests included: Ken LaSala, Director of Government Affairs, International Association of Fire Chiefs; Nidhi Thakar, Associate in environmental law at Perkins Coie LLP; Delegate Justin Ross, Member of the Maryland House of Delegates; and Susan Turnbull, Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party. April 25, 2009 11th Annual Maryland Day - CAPC registered voters and election judges while showing off new voting technology as part of the University of Maryland's annual Maryland Day celebration. March 12, 2009 Key Obama campaign advisor Greg Pinelo, Partner at the political communications firm GMMB, gave a presentation entitled "How Obama Did It: The Road to The Presidency." November 11, 2008 CAPC hosts an election post-mortem in conjunction with the honors department featuring several Government & Politics professors, including Prof. Paul Herrnson. February 29, 2008 U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) engaged University of Maryland youth voters in an open discussion on foreign and domestic issues; speak on the topic, "America: Our Next Chapter;" and receive a national political courage award. January 23, 2008 Study: Touch Screen Voting a Hit; Critics Miss Mark on Security. Electronic voting technology, especially touch screen systems, easily pass the tests of voter confidence and satisfaction, but users still make too many mistakes and ask too often for help... May 7, 2007 Workshop on Voting Technology and Practices - sponsored by CAPC and the Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy at Brigham Young University. April 30, 2007 Workshop on the Promise and Performance of Electronic Voting Systems - sponsored by CAPC and the Institute for Social Research (ISR) at the University of Michigan. April 11, 2007 Prospects of Peace in the Middle East - Can there ever be peace in this region of the world? What are the environmental factors that must occur to make this happen? These questions will be answered by professors from the Government and Politics department, Dr. Shibley Telhami and Dr. Jillian Schwedler, along with PhD Candidate Guy Ziv. Panelists will discuss the identity of the Middle East as a whole, foreign relations with the U.S., the current political scene in Israel and Jordan, peace talks between the Middle East nations, and Islamist social and political movements.
